For those of you reading this wondering what on earth a blog hop is? I will quickly explain; A group of fabulous crafty bloggers have gathered together, chosen a theme and everyone is creating something unique for the hop. Today we’re all sharing with you Handmade gift ideas and I have chose to make this pretty handmade Spa gift basket because I just love, love, love making body scrubs of all kinds. Honestly, who doesn’t love beautiful handmade skincare products?
Before we get started a couple of little things to keep in mind! Once you are done reading the tutorial, keep scrolling down to see the other fabulous ideas for this Hop! DIY Spa Gift Basket
Why Handmade?
You may be wondering, why handmade? Well, aside from it been cost effective, it’s also a thoughtful and unique way to give gifts. Not everyone will put the effort in to making someone else something and if you package it correctly, it will look as great as an expensive gift pack from your local department store with out with expensive price tag!
Another reason I love the idea of gifting handmade is because it’s about time we all stopped thinking handmade gifts are for cheap people or for hundred year old grandmas with too much time on their hands. Handmade is cool and if you style your gift right, it will look absolutely amazing and the person you have gifted it to will be shocked at how clever you are. Trust me!
So show me how to make this gift already!
To make this tutorial easier to follow, I will divide it into 3 different sections.
Alright, alright! I won’t stop dragging this out any longer! Let’s get this party started!
To create this DIY Spa Gift Basket you will need:

Materials
3 different jars/bottles. I used a Mason Jars, a basic little jar and a glass bottle with a cork lid.
4-5 x Mini Bottle Brush Trees (assorted sizes)
Red Chalk Paint- I used DecoArt America Decor Chalky Finish in Rouge
Basket- any basket that can fit all jars will do
1 x Pair of Christmas Socks (not essential)
Loose tea leaves or tea bags (amount depends on size of jar)
1 x Bundle of Raffia
Cinnamon sticks
Large piece of Red Ribbon or material of your choice. I used 1 metre of thick red satin ribbon.
Hot Glue Gun and glue sticks
Wooden Spoon
1 1/2 cups Raw Sugar
3 TBSP Coconut Oil
100ml Olive oil , Almond oil or Jojoba Oil (I used Olive as it is the most budget friendly)
*** Always be cautious when using essential oils particularly with pregnant women. Essential oils can burn the skin, so do your research before making blends.
Make The Products
Pack The Tea
Grab a small jar for some loose tea or tea bags. Tea flavour is up to you. Pack tea into the jar. Using some twine wrap a cinnamon stick on to the lid of the jar. Set aside.
Tea is a great option for a SPA gift pack because it symbolizes relaxation. The person who you gift the DIY Spa Gift Basket to can sit and sip on tea while they soak their feet.
Make The Body Oil
Body oil is a perfect Spa product to include in the gift basket. I chose to use olive oil as it is a cheaper option but you can use other carrier oils like Almond oil or Jojoba oil instead.
Place oil into a glass jar/bottle that is secure. Add 1-2 drops of essential oils. I added 1 drop of vanilla and that was more than enough. *Remember you do not want the smells to be too over powering or the product to cause any reactions on the skin,
Wrap twine around the head of the bottle/jar and then tie a Mini Bottle Brush Tree for decoration.
How pretty does it all look already?!
Body Scrub
Don’t feel intimidated by this step. I promise making body scrubs is actually very, very simple.
I used a Mason Jar for my body scrub and chose to make it a Cinnamon and Vanilla body Scrub. It’s the perfect fragrance for Christmas which is warming and sweet.
I a large metal or glass bowl add 1 1/2 cups of Raw Sugar, 3-4 TBSP Coconut Oil, 1 drop of Cinnamon oil and 2 drops of Vanilla oil.
Mix well and spoon your scrub mix into your jar.
Adorn The Jars
This step has to be my favorite!
Using my DecoArt Chalky Finish Paint in Rouge, I painted the lid of the Mason Jar. You can do this with any jar you use. Allow it to completely dry.
Once the lid is dry, hot glue 3 Mini Bottle Brush trees on to the lid. I recommend having at least one tree a little taller than the others to give it dimension and character. Pop the lid on the jar.
Set all jars / bottles aside.
Prepare The Gift Basket
We’re almost at the end!
Grab the basket you have chosen to use. I had this one laying around in my house, so I chose to use it.
Grab your chosen ribbon and wrap it around the basket. Tie a knot at the front and cut excess ribbon.
Using a second piece of ribbon, tie a large bow tie.
Once you have finished your bow, tie it to the written wrapped around the basket. Use a small piece of spare ribbon to cover the middle of the bow and tie on to the basket. Use a little hot glue if you need to keep it all together.
** TIP: I slightly hot glued the back of the bow to the basket so it stayed in place. Only a small amount of glue is necessary.
Assemble The DIY Spa Gift Basket
Phew! Now we have everything finished, it’s time to assemble this awesome handmade gift!
Nothing says Christmas cozy like a nice pair of warm, fully socks. I found these at a local store by my house. Search around to find one that first into your price range. This is not essential but does finish off the gift.
Honestly, are’t these socks the best! They’re incredibly cozy.
Roll the socks up, ready to put into the basket.
Now that everything is done, grab the bundle of Raffia (you can also use tissue paper for this) and place it into the basket making sure to spread it all evenly. You can add paper under the raffia to help keep the jars neatly in place and from sinking down to the bottom of the basket.
Finish by playing all your jars and socks nicely in the basket. For good measure I also added a large Bottle Brush Tree, but this is by no means necessary. The basket I chose was big, so I needed to somehow fill it! haha.
And that’s it friends! Here’s the end result! I just love it. What a perfect and thoughtful handmade Gift!
