Kitchen Cupboard Organization Ideas
4 – Store Flat Items Upright
Storing flat kitchen essentials such as cookie sheets and cutting boards typically takes up a great deal of valuable cupboard space. Yes, you can stack other items on top of them. But, then you have to “un-stack” everything to get to what you need at the bottom.
What’s the solution? Store flat items upright in your cupboard or even in the space between your stove or refrigerator and the cupboard. If you don’t want them to come in direct contact with the floor, put them in a wire filing rack.

This post is like heaven for me! I love the idea to hang measuring cups and spoons like that. Totally going to look for those decals. 😀
I’m looking for them too Sarah, if you find them, please let me know! Such a great idea! 🙂
I print custom vinyl and could create something like this if you’re interested ☺
Did you get instructions to do this? I cannot find any. Want this in my cupboard!
Hi Linda, the link to the decals is under the photo that I share. As for instructions on how to apply them I don’t think there are any out there. You apply them as you would any other wall decal. Make sure you clean the surface with a cleaning spray, then wipe down with a damp cloth, allow to dry and once clean and dry apply the decals. Sometimes it helps to use a ruler to slowly slide over the decal as you’re sticking it on so that no air bubbles get under the decal. Hope this helps. Anymore questions, just let me know 🙂
I love the idea of hanging things inside a door! The picture you have with the measuring cup equivalents is amazing; I need to find one of those for my house. =) The people who lived in our house before us redid the kitchen, so there are nice tiered compartments in the under-counter cabinets, including a space to lay my cookie sheets upright for easy reach!
I’m trying to find this also Jaime, but haven’t succeeded yet. Nothing like a new kitchen to enjoy! So much easier to deal with! 🙂
I really love some of your kitchen organization ideas. I am the type that has to have a clean kitchen to feel inspired to cook.
I’m the same Pamela and I honestly can not handle a messy and unorganised kitchen, though my kitchen does get out of control frequently I try and get it back in order quickly.
So I love the idea of using door space. I want to create a similar set up to the measuring cups on the door in the photo above!
It’s such an awesome idea isn’t it Kecia. I am looking around for some stickers similar to these but can’t find them. May need to DIY my own!

Have you been in my kitchen lately? How did you know I SO needed this. I’m a cooking-lover, but my cupboards are always such a mess!
It can get like that Chrissa, specially if you love to cook and put your kitchen to good use!
I had no idea food stayed fresh longer innclear glass containers! I love my Pyrex containers already but now I kind of love them more. Also, that yellow fridge is gorgeous! (I know that’s not really pertinent to the organization aspect but my goodness, it’s pretty!)
Lord knows I need those measurements on my cabinet doors!
So do I Raquel and I am searching high and low for something similar to these!
I love the idea of using the doors as storage, I have never thought of that, and will definitely be doing it! These are amazing ideas, thanks for sharing them!
Thanks so much leah. Glad you got something out of this post 🙂

These are seriously great tips! I especially love the idea of utilizing wasted ‘door space’ for measuring cups and spoons. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Cait. Yes, it’s such a waste not to use this space, specially if you have a tiny kitchen!
These are awesome tips! I definitely prefer using glass storage containers, and I think they store so much better than plastic containers. Great post!
This came at the perfect time for me. I am getting ready to reorganize my kitchen I plan to toss a lot of items I don’t use or don’t need anymore. I am really excited about doing this. I also use containers to help organize the food in the pantry.
Containers for the pantry are essential Christine. Hope you can get it all reorganized before Christmas 🙂
I love these!! I’m constantly in the kitchen and always re-organizing as I go, so I am always in need of new kitchen ideas. Thanks!
I’ve always wanted to hang measuring cups inside the cabinet door!!
Great tips!! I just bought an under the sink shelf that fits around my plumbing, way better than everything sitting on the floor of the cabinet and easier to get to!! I love that measuring graphic on your cabinet!!
Love these ideas – there’s no such thing as a kitchen that’s too organized. 😉
Great list! Door space is a particularly important and underutilised way of organising the kitchen – being able to hang bits and bobs on the inside is a lifesaver.
WHERE is that yellow fridge from?? I would die to have that in our future home! 🙂 also, how have I never thought to store my pans upright? Great idea. Thanks!
