Organizing And Cleaning Tips To Keep Your Home Tidy Everyday
Having a tidy home is vital for better focus and bringing positive energy into a home and these easy to follow Organizing And Cleaning Tips are sure to help you on your way to a cleaner more functional home.
My track record for home organization is pretty appalling. That is until I realized I just CAN NOT function without some sort of structure and discipline in my life and home. Particularly when you have children, having a home to store everything in your house is absolutely necessary in order for your day and life to function a lot smoother.
I love and enjoy a clean home and tidy home and want my children to live in a clean environment. My house is never dirty, I refuse to have a dirty, unsanitary home. But boy can it get messy if I allow it to.
My aim is not to make you feel like the only human on earth that can not keep a tidy house, you’re not. Trust me. As mums, we ALL struggle to keep organized homes and it is just not always possible or realistic depending on our circumstances. The goal is to help guide you with these organizing and cleaning tips so that you can introduce them into your daily routine. It becomes second nature and life is much easier when you keep on top of the daily workload.

1 – MAKE THAT BED
If nothing else, make your bed every morning. There really is nothing nicer than getting into a clean and tidy bed after a long, hard day at work or taking care of kids (or both). The easiest way to accomplish this is to make is as soon as you’re out of bed. Let it be the first thing you do before you continue with your morning.
2 – SUCK UP ALL THAT DIRT!
I know this seems like a chore and a half but hear me out. I have a two-storey house with 5 bedrooms. Of course, I do not vacuum the entire house daily, that would be ridiculous and I just couldn’t keep up with that! What I do is vacuum our most used areas in the house on a daily basis. This is made easier by using my amazing vacuum cleaner which I love. The kitchen, dining and living areas tend to end up filthy by the end of the day, particularly the kitchen and dining. By vacuuming daily, your floors will feel fairly clean most of the time and the next time you do it, it wont be such a big job.
A stick vacuum is a great tool for daily vacuuming. It’s light weight and helps with giving the floors a quick clean.
Vacuuming later in the day is ideal because you can clean the mess from the day and enjoy nice clean floor as you relax of an evening. It’s also another chore you don’t have to worry about doing in the morning.
3 – CLEAN THAT KITCHEN BEFORE YOU GO TO SLEEP
This is a MUST. A clean kitchen just makes you feel happy and content. I do not like leaving dirty dishes overnight. Not only does it cause your house to develop funny smells but it minimizes the workload the following morning. My morning routine does not allow for cleaning the kitchen in the morning. The only thing I do in the kitchen of a morning is prepare breakfast and quickly wash the dishes from the morning.
It’s very simple to get into this routine if you don’t already do this. Even if you rinse your dishes the night before, it doesn’t take much more effort to load your dishwasher and turn it on for the night or give those last few dishes a quick wash. I don’t always put the dishes away during the evening, I usually do this the following day but at least all the dishes are clean and my countertops are clean and tidy. I promise you, this will make your life much easier!
Make it a point to clear your kitchen countertops and put everything back in its place. Give them a good wipe down with all-purpose cleaner or cleaning vinegar. You will feel much better at the end of the day knowing you have left your kitchen clean and tidy.

4 – PUT EVERYTHING BACK IN ITS PLACE BY THE TIME KIDS GO TO BED
This is a huge one for home organization. Make sure to put everything away at the end of the day once the kids are ready to go to bed. If need be, invest in some extra cupboards or storage cubes (I have this one in my living room and love it!), shelves, bins or boxes for storage. Having a lot of storage spaces in your house will help give every item you own a home.
Having allocated storage for kids toys is vital to keep the house tidy.
When you have a messy home you find you lack in concentration and do not enjoy your environment as much. I like to have the kids toys back in their allocated spots so that it’s “out of sight, out of mind”. Ok, so they’re not totally out of sight, but at least we don’t have toys taking over the entire house. Invest 5-10 minutes each night either before or after your kids go to sleep to put away all of their toys and put items like throw rugs and cushions back in their place.
Get the kids involved and make it a game! Do whatever you need to do but get it all tidy again. You’ll have a far more relaxing night and will be far more productive the following day.
My last tip for putting things away and finding a home for everything is to DECLUTTER! YES! I find most of us have way more than we need. We hold on to items we no longer need or use and clutter soon takes over our homes. Here are some fabulous tips on How To Tackle Clutter that will help you on your way to getting rid of items you no longer need and achieving a more organized and tidy home.
5 – WIPE DOWN SURFACE AREAS AND COUNTERS THROUGHOUT THE DAY
Another must-do tip I have for you is to wipe down surfaces and countertops throughout the day. I said this above, and I will say it again; my kitchen benches NEED to be clean, wiped down and cleared before the kids are in bed. I can not have it any other way. It literally takes a minute or two to spay down your surface areas and wipe, wipe, wipe. It keeps your house clean and hygienic and reminds you put back the items that don’t belong there.
6 – WASH, FOLD, PUT AWAY
I will admit this is my least favorite task ever and the hardest for me achieve. I really do struggle with this but I’m working on it as it makes a huge difference.
The moment you take your washing off the line or out of the dryer fold it and put it away! I know this is particularly hard if you have multiple children at home with you but it will help you to avoid huge piles of creased clothes that can sit there for days (yes… I’m one of those people… terrible I know)! But if you stick to it, it will save you time and ironing!
Whenever I stick to these organizing and cleaning tips I have gone through I find my days flow much better and I tend to enjoy my home more, be in a better and less stressed mood and tend to find I am far more productive. It takes time and discipline but once you adapt yourself to doing these things in your daily routine, it really does make a huge difference to your home and life.
I hope these tips have been helpful to you. What other fabulous daily tips do you have to add to my list?

First of all, I love your mugs! I think I want to start a small collection when we move! Second, I second all of these! I always put things away at the end of the day, and keeping the kitchen clean and wiping it down really makes a big difference in how my mornings start the next day. I love these! Thanks for the inspiration!
Hi Chelsea! Yes, I love having all sorts of pretty mugs around. I always buy atlas 4 of each but usually my go to number is 6 🙂 I NEED my kitchen clean at night. Can’t handle it otherwise. Glad you like the tips and do a lot of them already!
love all these tips – might try implementing some of them! Thank you for this
You’re welcome Medina 😉
Great post, Maria and those mugs! Love!
Thanks for the great tips!
You’re welcome 🙂
Will surely be implementing your handy hints into my day! Thank you for sharing 🙂
They’ll make your life so much easier Sam! 🙂
Great tips Maria! And I love those cute little cups on your shelf 🙂
Thanks Christy! I love my little cups also! haha. Love buying pretty things 😉
Hi Maria,
I do the same things to keep my home clean. I’ve been slacking lately, and it shows. I think you are spot on with the advice! Another blogger recommended to do a load of laundry every day and see the whole task through to the end. I love that idea too! Great, post!
Thanks Janine and it’s good to hear you do the same also. Makes a huge difference rather than leaving it all to the last minute and having to do huge amounts in short periods of time.
thanks for the useful tips. I think the one I need to really work on is putting stuff back in the right place. Going to start now! Feeling inspired 🙂
Glad you’re feeling inspired Kate 🙂 x
YES! I have a very small home, so I actually can sweep every day – and I do because we have a toddler and a dog and a cat so my house is the worst if I don’t/ Also, cleaning up the basic parts of the kitchen after my son goes to bed is CRUTIAL.
Love these tips, Maria! I always start the day making my bed and do one load of laundry every day. I hate laundry, so this help me not feel over whelmed. I also love to vacuum (hate to sweep) but our vacuum recently broke. :/ So until we buy a new one, I’m stuck sweeping.
Gah, nothing worse than a broken vacuum or one that doesn’t suck much! We purchased a Dyson 12 months ago and it’s a dream. Up until then I always hat crappy vacuums that broke all the time. Glad you find these tips useful Jessica 🙂 x
These are great tips. Nothing makes my day better than to start with a clean house. Gotta put the work in the night before.
Thanks for these tips! I’m slowly yet surely incorporating most of these ideas into my daily cleaning routine and they have worked out great!
You’re welcome 🙂 yeah, they do work when you do them all 😉 I won’t lie, I can get lazy also 🙂 x
These are great tips! I especially love getting everything in its place before the kids go down. So smart! Thanks for sharing at Merry Monday this week!
This is a great list! I’ve mastered the art of making my bed every day, but I could use a little work with the rest of them. Especially putting away the laundry. As soon as that load is in the dryer, it’s out of sight out of mind.
Great tips!! Keeping a clean home is so important! Thank you for sharing this with us at the #HomeMattersParty
Hi, I try to do all your list and totally agree but I will be too tired after putting the kids to bed to declutter toys and vacuum and sweep floors… Can you share your morning routine and also times that you do these cleanings and cooking… Thanks Dorianne, mum of 2 toddlers and hosting 2 students
Hi Dorainne,
I do the sweeping or vacuuming and toys before the kids are in bed while my husband baths the boys. If he is away for work which he frequently is then I try and start my routine earlier in the afternoon, cook dinner earlier in the day or have leftovers ready and then give the house a tidy before I take the kids up to have a bath. I don’t have a morning routine write on here but will certainly write it on my to do list and share it on the blog in the coming weeks 🙂 I usually cook in the afternoon. I start between 4pm and 5pm and try and clean as I go, load dishwasher and wash dishes that can’t be put into the dishwasher as I go. As for cleaning I don’t have set times, I just work it around what we have planned for the day but I usually do a lot of my cleaning in the afternoon except for unpacking dishwasher and starting laundry. bathrooms get done when i can though the day (on the days I choose to clean bathrooms and toilets). Hope that helps! 🙂
I am not a fan of house cleaning! really. I only do it because I so not like messes. I try hard to keep things organized, but it does not always happen.
I admit I also don’t like housework but it’s something that has got to be done and I find if I try and keep to a routine it makes life easier and just becomes second nature.
Love your blog! These tips are super helpful. It’s hard to keep the house clean every day but this post definitely helps. I always try to ping a laundry load on in the morning, it helps me get organised for the day ahead 🙂 but obviously, I appreciate not everyone has the time to do that x
Thanks Collette! What a lovely thing to say. You’ve made my day. It is so so difficult to keep a clean house every day ins’t it. Once can only try! Mess and clutter drives me nuts but my house is certainly not perfect. The load of laundry in the morning is so helpful I think but I still find I have millions of clothes piled up needing a wash… maybe my boys are just gross because they bombard my laundry pile! xx
Your tips are great and I learned them all from my mom. I always make it a point to make my bed.
My children are all grown up gown. You would think it would be easy to keep my house in order .Well, I am home all day on disability and is my husband. We do not have a dishwasher, I am the dishwasher. I go to bed at night with a clean kitchen, clean counters and no dishes in the sink. I am guilty about not putting them away. Problem is, my husband has those late night and middle of the night snacks and leaves the dishes. I am sure most empty nesters get this problem.
Love your blog!!!
Hi Virginia, thank you so much for your comment and enjoying my blog 🙂 Sorry for such a late reply. I have been so behind on replies. I don’t always put the dishes away at night either but I’m ok with this. The midnight snacking would be hard and no one once to do dishes in the middle of the night. haha. Thank you for your compliment and I’m glad you like my blog <3 🙂
Wow, I really need to follow your steps to achieving an organized and beautiful home! I love the idea of everything having its own place and purpose. My ultimate goal is to live a minimalist life and hopefully, this will be one of the steps to get there!
This is a great list! I also struggle with the put away laundry. I usually succeed with all the loads except the last one for the week. Pinned!
thanks for the great tips. I will be incorporating some of these into my daily routine.
Maria, talking about getting clothes off the line, not very many people do that any more. But I LOVE to hang out my clothes. An as far as folding them from the line r dryer I have to. An my kids hated having to fold socks. I would tell them “do it time u get them out of dryer r off of line an its not that bad.” My kids r grown an have kids of their own an now have what they call a sock basket. R U kidding me! I tell them. Loved all ur great tips, keep’em coming.
I currently live where it is very hot Nana so for me clothes go on the line almost year round because it’s too hot to need a dryer. before I lived in cold weather so I would use my dryer year round and rarely hung clothes on the line! haha. Glad you enjoyed the tips. I am working on some new posts, so keep an eye out 🙂 Thanks for writing. Maria.
